A hand-painted thangka can remain vibrant for generations if environment and handling are managed properly. Most long-term damage comes from avoidable exposure conditions, not age itself.

Avoid direct sunlight and damp interiors. UV exposure fades pigments while high humidity can weaken cloth and adhesive layers over time.

Use clean, dry hands and avoid touching painted surfaces directly. When inspecting, place the thangka on a clean flat support and avoid repeated tight folds on the same line.
