The Medicine Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru, is invoked for healing of body and mind. Deep lapis-lazuli blue like the healing stone itself, he holds a sprig of myrobalan, the great medicine, in his right hand and a bowl of amrita nectar in his left, seated before seven attendant healing Buddhas.

Practitioners recite his mantra and visualise blue light easing sickness and fear, making his image a gift for the ill and for caregivers. Painters render his serene form against aureoles of gold and blue, each piece hand-finished in Kathmandu Valley workshops.
